After 10 years the circle is now complete. I bought this kit as a teenager, built it back then, no decals, and left it idling there for almost a decade. After a friend of mine referred me to Speedline decals, I bought its younger brother (the 2001 car in the other article) and before long I found Indycals for this particular car… the cast was set. I HAD to resuscitate this build, and so I did.

Since just applying the decals next to its brother the car would look literally like a teenager build against a much more experienced build, I had to strip it. Result was I ended up building both kits simultaneously. I chose to do this speedway version because I was already doing the road course version in the other car.

First, I cut off the suspension on the car to sand a nasty seam in the nose of it. Apart from that, assembly was a complete cakewalk. Since this particular car the whole nose was red, this was much easier to paint than its brother. Paints were Tamiya Spray cans. After the paint was done, Decals were applied according to the finished area - the nose first, the engine cover, followed by the rear wing, side pods and finally the main Tecate decal. I used Eduard PE Seat belts, decals were Indycals. Kit decals for the Tires.

Adrian Fernandez was always a hero of mine, a true inspiration. This car is done according to the Tecate / Quaker State Reynard he drove during the 2000 CART season. Adrian Fernandez ended up runner up in the championship, with Victories in Rio and Australia. Ah, I miss those days. Thank God you can see the races in Youtube!!

Anyways, I’ve enjoyed this build. At the end I think it looks much more elegant than the 2001 car. Still I can’t really name a favorite. All I can say is this was a looong time due. I iz happy J. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I have.

Take Care
