This is the ever familiar and ubiquitous Revell (ex-Monogram) ’39 Chevy coupe street rod, done up as a factory stock model.
I had to borrow parts from a number of different kits, and scratch-build a few components as well.
I won’t go into torturous detail here, but will let my “parts list” below do most of the talking.
In 1939, Chevy was offering a 216 cid version of its famous, long-reigning Stovebolt Six. Unfortunately, the only available models of that vintage are all in 1/25th scale, and would have seemed puny inside the 1/24th scale engine compartment, so I compromised and borrowed the 250 cid Blue Flame power plant from the ex-Monogram ’53 Bel Air kit.

For some weird reason, the gas-filler cap on the street-rod kit was located mid-body, just behind the passenger door.
Gas caps on the factory stock model were located on the right rear fender so I puttied up the incorrect “kit-supplied” hole, and drilled a new one on the fender, borrowing the cap itself from the Revell 1/25th ’40 Ford Standard coupe—one of the best, most abundant donor kits to come out in recent years, and a very fine model in its own right.
I would be remiss not to mention the Jada Toys 1/24th ’39 Chevy Sedan Lowrider, from which I sourced factory-stock bumpers and tail lamps.
It would have been impossible to bring this project off successfully without those bumpers; they fit onto the Revell street rod frame with no fuss after I ground down the huge lugs on the back with my Dremel Moto Tool.
Once installed, I finished the bumpers and the trim on the hood side skirts with a wash of The Detailer, Black.

Below is a list of donor parts and scratch-built items:
-
AMT 1/25th Chevy Coupe
-
Revell 1/25th ’37 Ford Panel Truck (or Pickup)
-
Revell 1/25th ’40 Ford Standard Coupe
-
Revell (ex Monogram) ’53 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop
-
Revell (ex-Monogram) ’53 Corvette
-
Jada Toys 1/24th ’39 Chevy Sedan Lowrider
Scratch-built items:
-
Stock (’39-vintage) air cleaner (K & S aluminum tube and sheet)
-
Engine compartment wiring and plumbing (using various bits of copper wire, insulation and plastic sheet).
-
Exhaust system and muffler (K & S aluminum and Evergreen plastic tubing)
-
New engine mounts and frame cross braces
(Evergreen styrene strip)
-
Interior upholstery (painted Tamiya masking tape)
-
And so, there you have it! This was a lot of fun to build, and I hope you like it!
cheers
