I built this for my brother for Christmas. He recently got a new take-home car and I really wanted to build a model of it. The basic car is a 1/18 diecast by MotorMax, which started out plain white. The car is available in black and white but when I bought it, I thought it would be all white. I started by taking the entire car apart and painting the black sections of the body.
I wired it with a working lightbar and wig-wags for the headlights and taillights. The wiring was complicated and I learned a lot from the experience. When I build my own car next, it should be much easier. I wish I took some in-progress pictures of the "guts" with all the exposed wiring, it was tricky to hide it all and still have functioning lights. The car was secured to the base and wired in permanently with the switches on the back of the base.
The interior was
also stripped down and repainted. I added a lot of scratchbuilt details, such as
the center console, front and rear radar antennae, video camera, and the radio
antenna on the trunk. The computer is an aftermarket item. The decals were
custom made by www.jbot.ca.
The decals included every little detail to make the model look just like the
real thing. They took a long time to get to me, but they were well worth the
wait! And in case you were wondering, yes, it was his favorite gift. Jon Grafton
